Why short clips are better
Lately, I've been wondering why my attention span has been deteriorating. Maybe it's age? Nah. I refuse to believe I'm old. Maybe everything's just become THAT uninteresting? The problem with things today is that there are so many to pay attention to, and not much time to absorb it all.
As time goes by, having excessive things to grab your attention just somehow makes you uninterested. Even the idea of something taking too long of your precious time is almost like entertaining a 5.0 magnitude in your head. So what idea do you have to not be dismissed? Be QUICK. Less IS more.
I think people forget the value of simplicity. There are such ways to still show quality whilst on speed. Instead of posting 500 pictures on an album, remember the good old days when you had to fit in 36 pictures on one roll of film. After developing it, you basically just put half of in the album. It makes sense that in this digital age you take more pictures, but how many categories are there? People get bored at looking at the same thing over and over again. Oh there's you on a ferris wheel. Oh! There's you again on a....ferris wheel. Wait one sec, is that you on the uhm....ferris wheel?
People do slideshows now. Imagine the simplicity of a 10 second clip with short music to portray the mood and just a few pictures to show the experience. I mean, how many variations can you find in just one setting?
As for videos, the only things you need are subject, a verb, and an adjective. Three simple things make one short clip gold. For example: subject (dog,) verb (jumping,) adjective (adorable.) You can show all three and your audience won't miss the point. It can only be 10 seconds but the idea will be retained because of it's simplicity.
